so are we done?

Well thanks to money troubles and activist burnout HCAP no longer has an office....are we done yet? Are people still interested in doing the type of anti-poverty organizing, advocacy and direct action we were doing in the past? or is something different needed...............something more creative?....less radical? more radical? more grassroots? political? I am still available to take on individual cases and will wrap up what is left...............but really what is next?

within the last year both my friend and i have emailed the hcap and offered to volunteer in any capacity we could. we both have solid backgrounds in social activism. yet, they completely ignored our emails. their refusal to accept help makes me fully understand why they died. i only hope that a less elitist organization emerges to replace it.

the truth is there was probably no one available to support new volunteers when you contact them. Or even to take or return your call. It is kind of a catch 22 situation. HCAP needed volunteers but there was no one much of the time to support and train new volunteers. The orgnization had no paid staff and only one volunteer doing the admin at anytime. Volunteers take time, support, training and coordination...there just wasn't the human resources to do that.
